A scenes from the dance drama "Chindera nu Turaju"

created by Majikina Yuko.  It is a story of the bond between mother and child and the risks both take to reunite.  This poignant story tells of their fate.

"Chindera nu Turaju" debuted in 1961, returned to stage in 1978 and makes its United States mainland premier on November 2, 2014  2:00 pm at the Aratani/Japan America Theatre.  There will be English supertitles for this performance.

 

Before the show, at 12:00 there was a free lecture on kumiudui and Majikina Yuko given by Dr. Robert Garfias, professor emeritus of  anthropology at the University of California, Irvine.
